Have you made the move to a sustainable reusable water bottle or thermos cup from Retulp? Way to go! They are convenient, cost effective and a great way to avoid plastic. The last thing you want is for foul odors and stains to linger in your new eye-catcher so it won't last as long as you had hoped after all. You can wash your bottle by hand , but sometimes your bottle still needs a thorough cleaning. This old-school step-by-step plan will keep your Retulp bottle clean and prevent foul odors, stains and bacteria.

What do you need?

  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/5th part soda
  • Lemon juice
  • Dishwashing brush
  • Hot water

Step 1

Rinse the bottle and fill it with warm water. Add the baking soda and brush the inside of the bottle with a dishwashing brush. When you are finished rinse the bottle again.

Step 2

Fill the bottle 1/5th with vinegar and top up the rest with warm water. Note: Make sure the water is not hotter than 60 degrees.

Step 3

Shake it baby! Shake the bottle well.

Step 4

Let the vinegar do its job by soaking the bottle for 10 minutes. Once you have done this, it is important to rinse the bottle well.

Step 5

Refill your bottle with water, add some lemon juice and let it stand for at least 45 minutes for the (vinegar) smell to dissipate. For this step, the longer, the better. For example, leave the bottle like this overnight.

Step 6

Then rinse the bottle for a final time. It is important that you do not clean up your bottle, whether it is plastic or stainless steel, until it is completely dry to avoid tarnish. In addition, store your bottle with the cap on to prevent bacteria from getting into your bottle.
