Saving money and being sustainable? 6 tips!

Saving money and being sustainable? 6 tips! It won't have escaped anyone's notice that daily expenses have been going up a lot lately. From high energy bills, increased gasoline prices to groceries that keep getting more and more expensive. Time to save, but can you do it sustainably? Here are 6 tips!

Tip 1: Pull the plug

Many appliances guzzle energy. Especially with today's (increased) energy prices, it is definitely worth unplugging an appliance after it has been used. It is often underestimated, but every device plugged in is a small energy guzzler. In the Netherlands we have quite a few appliances per household. So you can save enormously on this. A small effort so, after use unplug!

Tip 2: grab the wool sweater from the closet

Heating is a real big consumer of energy. And is easily turned on nice and high without thinking. But you can easily save money by turning the heating down a degree from time to time. For example, turn the heating down a few degrees before you go to sleep, or when you're not home during the day. Or even better, grab that nice warm wool sweater out of the closet a little earlier. Besides saving you money, it's also better for you. A slightly colder temperature also has many benefits for your health, as confirmed by Wim Hof, Iceman.

Tip 3. shower with your favorite song

On average, we shower for 10 minutes per person in the Netherlands. In addition, per minute of showering we consume 7 liters of water. So by taking shorter showers you are not only saving in your own wallet, but you are also giving a little back to the world. Of course, you can also set alarm clock to 5 minutes to make sure you spend less time in the shower. But what's even more fun is to turn on your favorite song! This will give you extra energy to wash your hair nice and fast!

Tip 4: Take all devices under the run

In the Netherlands we are very well off and have a handy appliance for everything. The washing machine, dryer, kettle, dishwasher you name it. Of course it is wonderful to have all the conveniences. But older appliances guzzle energy. So if you are considering buying a new appliance, choose one with an A+++ label. That way you save money without having to sacrifice all the conveniences. Now that's a smart choice.

Tip 5: prevent food waste

Groceries have gotten a little more expensive recently. And everyone feels that in their wallet. Of course, savings can be made here. But the solution may be closer at hand than you think. We throw away a lot of food every year. A shame, of course! This is easily solved with good fresh containers. Food will keep longer and you can easily take it with you for lunch!

Tip #6: Kick it

The car, has been a favorite in the field of transportation for years. Often the keys are quickly grabbed as a convenience. So asking a critical question can go a long way. Do I really need the car for this trip? Or can it be done by bicycle? Of course, it saves a lot of costs in terms of fuel. But you also help the environment by taking the bike more often. Moreover, if you cycle more often, you can cancel your gym membership! So a triple win!
