What are eco-friendly materials for cups and bottles?

In our fast-paced world, it sometimes seems impossible to stop the enormous amount of plastic waste we generate every day. In the Netherlands alone, we throw away 19 million plastic cups and food containers every day, and that after only one use. Clearly we need a change, a shift from disposable to reusable. By making conscious choices, we can not only reduce the plastic soup, but also be more careful with our valuable resources and leave a cleaner world for future generations.

What is included in sustainable?

Sustainability includes anything organic, recycled or long lasting. At Retulp, we understand the importance of sustainability like no other. Our assortment is carefully curated with the environment in mind, and we offer a wide range of products made from a variety of sustainable materials. But what actually makes these materials sustainable? And why is it so essential to make conscious choices? In this blog, we explain.

Bamboo (fibers): fast growing and strong

Bamboo, often mistaken for a type of wood, is actually a type of grass that grows quickly and is incredibly strong. This makes bamboo a sustainable choice because it can be harvested quickly. In addition, bamboo is naturally pest-resistant and requires very little water. At Retulp, we have two models of thermos bottles made primarily from bamboo, allowing you to contribute to a greener planet with style.

PLA Bioplastic: Naturally degradable

PLA, made from renewable plant resources such as corn starch, is biodegradable in industrial composting. Perfect for packaging peppers and lettuce, as it is a breathable material. While great for certain applications, PLA is less suitable for bottles, which is why you won't find PLA bottles in our range at Retulp.

RPET: A second life for plastic

Recycled plastic, or RPET, saves on the use of fossil fuels and reduces CO2 emissions and water consumption. While recycling can be energy-intensive, it is a step in the right direction. However, at Retulp, we choose to only make bags and lunch bags from RPET because of the complexities surrounding food safety and bottle recyclability.

Cane sugar Bioplastic: Reduced CO2 emissions

From sugar cane, not only cane sugar is made, but also bioethanol, which is then converted into plastic with the same composition and quality as plastic made from petroleum. The special thing is that sugar cane absorbs a lot of CO2 while growing, so biobased plastic has negative CO2 emissions. Our bio water bottles are made from this environmentally friendly raw material.

Stainless steel: the most environmentally friendly

Our drinking bottles and thermos cups are made of stainless steel, and for good reason. In addition to their longevity, stainless steel bottles offer numerous advantages over plastic bottles. Not only are they more resistant to germs, chemicals and flavors, they are also free of harmful substances such as BPA. Moreover, stainless steel drinking bottles and thermos flasks are easy to clean and remain flavor neutral, so you can always enjoy pure and fresh water.

At Retulp you are sure to find the perfect water bottle or thermos that fits your lifestyle and helps contribute to a more sustainable world. Choose consciously, make a green statement and contribute to a cleaner future. Together we can turn the tide and protect our planet for generations to come.
