Regional cleanup efforts
It is of great importance that the Dutch become more aware of the problem of litter and become active themselves in solving it. Especially for the Corona period, Retulp has done campaigns against litter at about 20 major events in Apeldoorn and surroundings.
Events can make a major contribution to reducing environmental impact by looking at waste prevention. Organizers also have a huge reach and can thus encourage awareness and behavioral change among visitors and participants, in order to achieve a clean sports ground and its immediate surroundings.
During major annual events such as the Dragon Boat Race in Apeldoorn, Lepeltje Lepeltje and the Sonsbeekfestival in Arnhem, Retulp has a stand manned by a Retulp employee and 1 or 2 students. Visitors to the festival are invited to pick up a bag of waste in the area around the festival. Upon returning a full bag of trash, the person will receive a free Retulp drinking bottle of their choice. An average of 150 people per day participated in this cleanup campaign.
These playful positive actions produced the following results:
- Raise awareness about the problem of plastic & litter and its consequences;
- Activate citizens and schoolchildren in litter cleanup;
- Increase sense of responsibility for the environment;
- Rewarding can be the first step toward long-term behavior change;
- Cleaner parks/event grounds!
