Plastic Soup Surfer - Merijn Tinga

The Plastic Soup Surfer built a hydrofoil kitesurfboard out of plastic litter bottles and used it to cross the North Sea from Scheveningen to Lowestoft. This was a crossing of no less than 176 kilometers and took almost 9 hours. With this action, the Plastic Soup Surfer calls for the expansion of deposits on small plastic beverage containers. In the Scandinavian countries and Germany a deposit on small drinks bottles is quite normal. San Francisco (USA) goes one step further. There, PET drinking bottles are completely banned. The Canadian city of Montreal is also working on a law to ban single use water bottles. The disposable bottle is in the top five of most frequently found litter on beaches.
